Adam I. Knowlton
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
 
Adam I. Knowlton is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for YPI with 12 years experience in commercial real estate.  In this position, Mr. Knowlton oversees and reports directly to the Chairman on all of the company’s legal matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, corporate finance and corporate governance.  Additionally, Mr. Knowlton manages all litigation matters and acts as risk manager for all third party liability claims covered by insurance.  During the past several years, Mr. Knowlton has provided internal counsel on all banking and finance matters and has worked extensively with YPI lenders on various lending and servicing matters; created key proprietary standard form agreements including national vendor service agreements, maintenance agreements, broker agreements, parking management agreements, the company employee handbook and special event and telecom license agreements; developed with accounting and operations, system processes and procedures to improve the day to day and long term operations of YPI;  and assisted the asset managers with operational issues and leasing matters. Prior to joining YPI, Mr. Knowlton was a partner in the law firm of Freeman, Freeman & Smiley in Los Angeles. He advised institutional investors, property owners, developers and lenders in all aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, and leasing and development projects, ranging from office and retail to industrial and mixed-use projects. He has extensive experience in representing both landlords and tenants in leasing office, industrial and high-end retail properties. Prior to specializing in real estate, he practiced as a litigator for the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery in Los Angeles representing clients in complex business litigation matters. Mr. Knowlton graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. After practicing for six years as a professional banker, he earned a Juris Doctor with Distinction from McGeorge School of Law.
